DVP - Software
A lot of the software we use in our Digital Video Project is freeware. This means it can be downloaded from the Internet. You need to be running Windows XP, and Media Player 10.
Much of the software is downloadable from www.microsoft.com
Windows Movie Maker allows you to import your home movies from your video cameras, and edit the film. You can add titles, audio, different transitions and effects. We use it in school to put together our videos that we make.
We use Photostory to create many of our files. This is a piece of software which allows you to import your photographs, and then add titles, movement and music to make a slideshow.
Windows Media Player 10 allows us to play our saved files from Photostory and Movie Maker. If you are not currently running version 10, this can be upgraded from the Microsoft web site.
Audacity can be downloaded from audacity.sourceforge.net and is a comprehensive audio editing suite.
It allows you to record your own soundtrack or narration, and then edit and alter your voice. You can export your work as an MP3, and then use it as a narration for your MovieMaker project or Photostory.
(Note: - if you are exporting as an MP3, you will need to download a file from their website lame_enc.dll, as the programme needs this in order to export project files).
Digital Movie Creator is a piece of software that accompanies the movie cameras we buy for use in schools. The children can use the Digital Cameras to record their footage, and then use the accompanying software to edit their films. We currently have 6 cameras in school, and have recently won a technology grant award which will allow us to purchase more of these cameras.
