Healthy Eating at Green Lane

We are very careful about what we eat at school, and our health is very important to us.

We have a healthy meal scheme currently running in school. Every day there is a healthy meal option in our school dinners, and if we choose this, we are given a healthy eating token which we take back to class with us. Every Friday afternoon, the class with the most tokens is given a big basket of fruit to share and enjoy during Golden Time.

Our school is also taking part in the Government initiative 5-a-day. More information can be found on the 5-a-day website.

This means that every child in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 is entitled to a free piece of fruit. We have enjoyed apples, bananas, oranges, and carrots and tomatoes as well.  The children have a specific fruit time, just before playtime when they all eat their fruit before going out into the playground.

Because the children in Key Stage 2 were not entitled to the free fruit, we have a fruit stall that goes into the yard at playtime, and the children can buy fruit from there. They can bring 20p a day and have a selection to choose from.

More information on Healthy Eating can be found here on the Channel Four website Jamies School Dinners, based on the successful television series.
