Our Curriculum Aims
THE CURRICULUM
The school ensures that all pupils follow a basic curriculum as outlined in the Education Reform Act 1988, covering the Core Subject -English, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology and R.E., and the Foundation Subjects - Information Technology, Design Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art and Design, and Physical Education.
The appropriate attainment targets, programmes of study and assessment arrangements are taken into account when planning the work to be delivered.
Increasingly, appropriate subjects are integrated and taught using a cross-curricular approach. This cross-curricular aspect is stressed in guidelines from the Department for Education and Skills and issues such as Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education, Equal Opportunities, Inclusion and Diversity are central to, and a unifying factor in, our "whole curriculum".
Our Curriculum Entitlement Plan can be viewed by clicking here.
Great importance is placed on children acquiring literacy skills. At Green Lane School all children will follow a course of study as set out in the National Literacy Strategy.
Emphasis is also placed on acquiring mathematical skills and on a thorough knowledge of the basic facts. Children will follow a course of study as set out in the National Numeracy Strategy.
Opportunities exist within the school for children to learn to play recorders, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute and clarinet.
Religious education is provided in the school within the framework of the local Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, the QCA Scheme of Work and our own Curriculum Entitlement Plan.
As children develop, we expect them to exercise self-discipline, a respect for others, respect for their own and other people's property. Our Positive Behaviour Plan outlines our "Golden Rules" and children are rewarded in a wide variety of ways for good behaviour and good attitude to work. The emphasis of the plan is to reward good behaviour but sanctions are also applied when necessary.
