Cooked meals

Meals are served on a cafeteria system, the children having a choice of hot main course and sweet or a salad bar.  The school operates a rota system in which children change order daily class by class in order that every class has a chance to go first for lunch.   Children should only change from school lunch to packed lunch or vice versa at the start of a new half-term.  It is sufficient to indicate this on the first dinner envelope of the new half-term.

Packed Lunches

Children who require packed lunches must ensure their lunch boxes and containers are unbreakable, clearly named and sealed to prevent spillages.  Boxes will be placed on a mobile trolley which will then be taken into then dining hall and stored until lunchtime.

Any fruit for playtime should not be put in packed lunch boxes.  Please note there are not facilities for cool storage.  Children will bring home food not consumed at lunchtime.

Since bringing sweets to school is not permitted lunch boxes should never contain sweets in order to be fair to all children.

Drink Containers

For reasons of safety, glass bottles, cans and glass sealed flasks, whether with packed lunches or for with a school meal, are not permitted in school.  Children may bring drinks in plastic safety flasks, plastic bottles or cartons for use with their lunch.

Free School Meals

A free school meal is supplied to some children by reason of parents' income level in accordance with scales laid down by the government.  If you are in receipt of benefit and you think you may be entitled to free school meals please contact the school or the Education Offices, Civic Centre, Middlesbrough.  Every effort is made to ensure that children receiving free school meals cannot be distinguished from other children.

Payment for Meals

Money for meals is collected on Monday morning for the full week's meal requirements. To facilitate this process, children are issued with envelopes (provided free of charge) which have spaces for recording the days when meals are required and space for the amount of money enclosed.  Please ensure this information is correctly filled in and clearly written with all the details indicated.

School encourages payment by cheque which should be made payable to Middlesbrough Borough Council.  Where meals are required for more than one child in a family, only one envelope need be sent - filled in with each child's name and dinner requirements written on the front.  These envelopes are our means of recording, calculating and providing meal requirements.  New envelopes will be issued on Monday for the children to take home for the next week's meal provision.  When attending school meals, to facilitate recording, children are asked to maintain attendance for half term duration before changing.  Meals can be paid for monthly, half-termly or termly, as well as weekly BUT ALWAYS ON A MONDAY PLEASE!
